Couple Officially Changes Their Legal Names to Santa and Merry Christmas Claus

by Eliza Murphy, ABCNews.com | Posted: 11-07-2016, 2:47 PM EDT

EXCERPT:

OMAHA, NEBRASKA --- A husband-and-wife Santa team have legally changed their names to Santa and Merry Christmas Claus. The former Jeff and Mary Brookstein will now have the merry monikers throughout the year, after the Douglas County District Court approved the name change as of yesterday.

"We're thrilled today," Santa told ABC News after celebrating having his name finally reflect what has become a passion of his for the last seven years. "It's gonna be amazing," added Merry, "because when you tell someone you're Santa, their eyes will just light up. There are these smart little kids out there who'll say: 'Let me see your driver's license,' and now, we can do exactly that!"

The Christmas-loving twosome, both aged 60, first met in 2009, when Santa, then Jeff, was working part-time in the role for gigs at day-care centers, nursing homes, retirement centers and holiday parties. "I had met my now-Mrs. Claus, and she went with me to all my bookings in that very first year," he recalled.

It was a profession that both of them grew to love together, even to the point of using their Santa Claus jobs as their dates before they were even married. "When I met him, our dating was going to all these day-care centers and senior citizens' events and it let me see how he has this heart for all those people he was there to entertain," said Merry. "It was a very gentle side to him, and it's just been amazing."

This is wrong on so many levels. Think about the headlines when this guy kicks the bucket; SANTA CLAUS DEAD AT 68.

I would title this,

"Losing One's Grip On Reality".

Dont get me wrong. I LOVE my time as SC. When the suit comes off though, I leave all that behind and try not to let it intrude into my normal life. This time of year can be a struggle but by not wearing red, not bring attn to myself in public, NOT changing your name to SC!!! It's do-able. Only getting called out a dozen times per day keepin it on tha low-low!

Blows my mind the extremes people will go too, to carry on a fantasy.

Many have done this.  There are several alive now that have legally changed their name to Santa Claus.  Taking a step like that screams "ego".  It screams, "Look at me!"  When the true legend is the exact opposite...mysterious and humble.  Nothing like the masses are schlepping now.  These masses are asses.

Just thought of a cool new game - fill in the blanks...

Changing your name to "Santa Claus" does not make you Santa Claus, any more than changing your name to James T. Kirk makes you the Captain of the Enterprise.

Now you try:

Changing your name to "Santa Claus", does not make you Santa Claus, any more than ____________________________________.

Yeah, you just knew that this was gonna open up the usual can of worms, with appropriate pros and cons mixing it up left and right. Why is this Elf Without Jingles not surprised?

But it changed from news to a game. Do we play in a news forum? just wondering.

I think someone was trying to make a point instead of starting a game.  If not, then we can split out the posts for the "game" and start a new topic in the Fun and Games forum.

@Santa Johnny Boy...was it your intent to start an actual game or were you just making a point?

Oh my. It's not the first time and it's not the last...but IS completely narcissistic and wreaks of a hidden self esteem issue. I love being called Santa, but I'm just as fullfilled and proud of Johnathan.

I thought he was, and though I'm here long enough to know it SHOULD have been started in the correct section, but thought if I "played" it would get moved.

And yet we did! See what happens when you try to start trouble! LOL! Obviously I liked it, so what does that tell you about the games YOU make up!

If it stays here, fine. If it moves to the Fun and Games forum, fine. I'll just stick to playing Count to a Million.

    • If You Have the Post Christmas Blues You’re Doing Christmas Wrong
The post-Christmas blues are a very real thing. Once the date of December 25th has passed the specter of December 26th is an ominous marker to many. It sits there on the calendar like the Ghost of Christmas Yet-to-Come. Silent and foreboding, the very image of the hooded Angel of Death it seems to be. And why not?

Just about anywhere you look Americans are tossing trees to the curb, ripping down lights from rooftops and radio stations are flipping back to everyday music. What took months to build gets deconstructed in a matter of a couple of days.

    • Auld Lang Syne
Every New Year’s Eve at the stroke of midnight, millions around the world traditionally gather together to sing the same song, “Auld Lang Syne”. As revilers mumble though the song’s versus, it often brings many of them to tears – regardless of the fact that most don’t know or even understand the lyrics. Confusion over the song’s lyrics is almost as much of a tradition as the song itself. Of course that rarely stops anyone from joining in.

    • Merry Christmas, My Friend
Every year around this time, some variation of this poem is circulated online. The poem is generally credited to “a soldier stationed in Okinawa” or more recently since September 11, 2001, “a Marine stationed in Afghanistan”.

However, the poem’s true author is Lance Corporal James M. Schmidt.

Originally entitled, “Merry Christmas, My Friend”, Corporal Schmidt wrote the poem in 1986 while serving as Battalion Counter Sniper at the Marine Barracks 8th & I, in Washington, D.C.

That day the poem was placed in the Marine Corps Gazette and distributed worldwide. Schmidt’s poem was later published in Leatherneck (Magazine of the Marines) in December 1991.

Backlash Building Against The Man Who Invented Christmas

      ChristmasWeekly.com
      September 7, 2017

      EXCERPT:

There is a new Christmas movie headed to theaters this Christmas about Charles Dickens about his creation of A Christmas Carol and Christmas purists hate it. Already.

The film has a stellar cast that features the dreamy-eyed Dan Stevens as Dickens and the legendary Christopher Plummer as Scrooge. Here is the trailer:

“This is a very presumptuous film,” said Christmas fan and would-be film critic, Arnold Yates, via MSN. “Charles Dickens was great but he certainly didn’t invent Christmas. Bah Humbug!”

That sentiment is growing online as the preview makes the rounds.

    • Seeking recognition
Seeking recognition is a downward path for a legend who performs his tasks in the veil of night.

Recently, a fellow portrayer of Santa posted an image on Facebook that they constructed to look like a magazine cover with him on it and several story snips like many publications have on their covers.  You may have seen it if they are your friend on Facebook.  It looks okay.  The composition is good, but the rendering when uploading it to Facebook became distorted it and it is quite pixelated when you look at it from a development standpoint.

    • Infringement? Make up your own mind.
In the last couple of days, on several different social media and bidding sites, an item has been offered for sale that in my opinion is cause for suspicion.  I would like to bring that product to your attention.

There is some disagreement over whether or not it is an infringement or not.  I believe it is close enough to be considered as an infringement, but that is not the only the reason behind my post.

Christmas is going to be a little different this year for families whose traditions include visiting Santa at Bass Pro Shops. Paul Davis, who spent the last nine years as the Bass Pro Santa in Ashland, will not be there anymore.
