Santa's Grotto, Alpine Lodge and craft stalls: Meet the new people behind Christmas 2017 in Bournemouth

by Darren Slade, Bournemouth, England Daily Echo | Posted: 03-01-2017

EXCERPT:

BOURNEMOUTH, ENGLAND ---- Bournemouth's German Christmas Market has been dropped in favor of a new Alpine-inspired attraction, including Santa's Grotto.

Local company Seventa Events has been awarded a 5-year contract to provide the town's festive attractions. They're promising a "renewed local focus," with public views invited.

The Bournemouth-based firm said they'd create a Christmas offering "more focused on benefits for the entire town." Among the local businesses that have already expressed an interest include restaurants Ojo Rojo, Koh Thai, La Piccola Italia, and Smokin' Aces, said Seventa executives.

Simon Brooks, the company's founder and director, said, "We are thrilled to have been awarded the Christmas contract." Seventa previously installed a Christmas pop-up bar in the former Print Room restaurant in the Daily Echo headquarters building.

Seventa Events takes over from Manchester's S&D Leisure, which had held the Christmas contract for around 9 years.

Said Mr. Brooks: "As a business based locally, we're well aware of the mixed reactions to the previous Christmas offerings in the center of the town. We'll listen to the general public at all stages of planning and delivery. We'll also work with area officials so that everybody can experience a Christmas area that's created by and for the people of Bournemouth."

......

There will be a Santa's Grotto along with entertainment and other activities in the Lower Gardens, which in recent years have included a popular ice-skating rink.
