Businesses invest $15M in Spencer County tourism

From the DuBois County, Indiana Herald via various area sources | Posted: 04-18-2017

EXCERPT:

SANTA CLAUS, INDIANA --- Tourism businesses in Spencer County are gearing up for the peak summer season with additions and enhancements totaling over $15 million.

"Seeing Spencer County businesses continue to enhance their properties, and with new tourism businesses launching this year, we are excited and ready to welcome visitors from all over," said Melissa Brockman, Executive Director of the Spencer County Convention and Visitors' Bureau. "The tourism industry is a tremendous asset for Spencer County, and it continues to grow and enrich our community."

Spencer County is home to such nationally known attractions as Holiday World and Splashin' Safari, Lake Rudolph Campground & RV Resort, as well as national and state parks commemorating Abraham Lincoln's Indiana Boyhood Home.

Tourism investments for 2017 include:

  • Santa's Lodge updated its indoor pool and 21 hotel rooms, installed a new air conditioning system in the Celebration Room, and more.
  • Lincoln Amphitheatre made venue improvements, such as replacing processors that control all lighting equipment repairs.
  • Firecracker is a new calypso ride added to Holiday World's 4th of July area.
  • Stone Ridge Station will open in June, located between Santa Claus and Lincoln City, and provide gasoline, an electric car charging station, and coffee shop with a full menu with options that include healthy alternatives.
  • Corner House Bed and Breakfast added a deck to its reception site.
  • Lincoln State Park invested in infrastructure improvements throughout the site.
  • Holiday Drive-In is continuing to work on its sixth screen addition.
