I think one of my favorite histories involving Christmas is the Truce of 1914 - one historian described it as "the last true act of humanity in the modern age."  This musical was on Broadway for a brief run in 2018.  It is a retelling of the events up to, during, and after the truce - as told by journal entries, diaries, and letters of the men that were there.  Interspersed with songs of the era. Very compelling and moving.  I just got my hands on a copy of the CD, which is now out of print.  There is a playlist on YouTube of many of the tracks - interesting that they keep the British call to war, but block the German track for being offensive.  Very interesting listen.
